TAG 10 to PSA 10 Crossover: No TAG Service, Scores, Pops and Prices

A TAG 10 to PSA 10 crossover has no published path. TAG offers no crossover service at all, and PSA’s crossover page does not list which companies’ holders it accepts, so a TAG owner either confirms with PSA that it will review the slab or cracks the card out and submits it raw. No company publishes how often a TAG 10 earns PSA’s top grade.

As of October 23, 2026: TAG’s help center, in an article dated March 31, 2026, says it does not run a crossover service. TAG’s Gem Mint 10 covers scores of 950 to 989 and its Pristine 10 covers 990 to 1000. At Goldin, an Evolving Skies Umbreon VMAX alt art in a TAG 10 holder with a score of 984 sold for $5,063 in May 2026, bracketed by two PSA 10 copies that sold for $5,491 and $4,697.

Why TAG is the odd one out

CGC, Beckett and SGC all run some form of review for slabs from other companies. TAG does not. Its help article is plain: “March 31, 2026 TAG does not currently offer a Crossover submission service to the public,” and it “does not crack slabs from other third-party grading companies for orders.” TAG also says it “will not accept cards in PSA, CGC, SGC, BGS, or other grading companies for grading in their original casings”. All of that describes cards coming into TAG, but it tells you TAG has built nothing for moving cards between companies in either direction.

On the PSA side, the crossover page describes the service as “for cards previously graded by other companies that you wish to cross over into a PSA holder.” It does not name the companies. Whether PSA will evaluate a card through a TAG case is therefore something to confirm with PSA before you ship, not something any published page settles.

Route one: a PSA crossover, if PSA will take the slab

If PSA agrees to review a TAG slab, the normal crossover rules would apply. You name a minimum grade, PSA grades the card through the holder, and “If your item doesn’t meet the minimum grade, it is returned to you in the original holder.” The fee is due regardless; in PSA’s words, “Regardless of the result, the grading price will be charged.”

That safety net is the whole point of a crossover. With a minimum of 10, a TAG 10 that PSA sees as a 9 comes home still a TAG 10. You lose the fee and the time, not the grade.

Two practical points before you ship. Ask PSA’s support team first whether it will review a TAG holder, and keep the reply with your order records. And declare the card’s value honestly, because PSA’s tier, and so the fee you pay on a miss, follows the value you declare. A TAG 10 worth a few hundred dollars and one worth several thousand land in very different tiers. Our crossover grading hub sets out how each grader’s slabs fare at PSA.

Route two: crack it out and submit raw

The other route needs nothing from PSA’s crossover desk: remove the card from the TAG case and send it to PSA as an ordinary raw card. There is no minimum grade on a raw submission, so whatever PSA decides is final. A TAG 10 that PSA grades 9 becomes a PSA 9, and the TAG grade is gone for good.

Cracking a slab also carries its own physical risk to corners and edges, and it ends any guarantee tied to the old holder. Our guides to opening a graded slab safely and to what opening a holder changes cover the details, and crossover versus crack and resubmit compares the two routes head to head.

What a TAG 10 means: the score behind the grade

TAG grades on a 1,000-point score and prints the matching 1-to-10 grade beside it. Its scale page asks “how strong of a 10 is this?” and answers with the score. The bands that matter here read “10 990 – 1000 GEM MINT 10 950 – 989 MINT 9 900 – 949”. TAG has no 9.5: “Half points are included on every grade level except for between 9 and 10.”

That missing 9.5 shaped the 10 itself. TAG rescaled in 2023, and its conversion page says that “in consideration of TAG not having a 9.5 grade, a TAG 10 will now begin at 950.” TAG adds that scores “prior to January 12, 2023 will now convert to the more intuitive scale”, so an early slab’s printed number may not match today’s bands; TAG’s report for the card is the place to check.

At the very top, TAG says its Pristine “exceeds the industry standard for a Gem Mint 10 and represents less than 1% of the cards TAG’d.” TAG’s help center gives Pristine centering limits: “Front Centering generally cannot exceed a single measurement of 51/49” and, for trading card games, a back limit of 52/48. TAG does not publish centering limits for its Gem Mint 10.

Grade Score band Front centering Back centering
TAG Pristine 10 990-1000 51/49 (TAG help center) 52/48 for TCG cards
TAG Gem Mint 10 950-989 Not published Not published
PSA Gem Mint 10 No score About 55/45 About 75/25

PSA’s own centering standard for its 10 is “a tolerance not to exceed approximately 55/45 percent on the front, and 75/25 percent on the reverse.” A TAG Pristine clears that by a wide margin on paper. A Gem Mint 10 might or might not, and TAG’s silence on its Gem Mint centering means the score is the best clue a slab gives you.

TAG’s Base Set counts beside PSA’s

TAG’s live population report for the 1999 Base Set Unlimited holos, read October 23, 2026, shows how rarely it awards a 10 on vintage. PSA’s figures below come from archived PSA pages and carry their own dates. Shares are our arithmetic; the TAG totals include a small column TAG labels VA without defining it.

Card TAG slabs TAG 10 (any) TAG 9 or better PSA 10 PSA 9 or better
Charizard 4/102 1,472 2, about 0.14% about 3.5% about 0.5% (March 2026 archive) about 9.5%
Mewtwo 10/102 476 3, about 0.63% about 9.7% about 2.6% (June 2025 archive) about 22.0%

Neither card had a single TAG Pristine 10 on the report. On both, TAG’s 10s and 9s make up a smaller slice of its population than PSA’s do of PSA’s. Read as a percentile, a TAG 10 on these cards sits deep inside the top band that PSA calls 10. That is a population comparison, not a crossover probability: TAG and PSA see different mixes of cards from different submitters, and the PSA counts are months older than TAG’s. Our Charizard population report across all graders puts the TAG numbers in a wider context.

TAG 10 to PSA 10 odds, in words

With no published pass rates, this is our estimate, reasoned from TAG’s score bands, its centering rule for Pristine and the population shares above:

  • TAG Pristine 10: a strong candidate. Its published centering is far inside PSA 10’s, and TAG says few cards reach it.
  • TAG Gem Mint 10 scoring in the high 900s: a good candidate, especially on vintage cards where TAG’s 10s are scarcer than PSA’s.
  • TAG Gem Mint 10 near the 950 floor: the least certain. TAG’s scale page talks about telling a high 10 from a low 10, and PSA does not grade on TAG’s scale.

Modern cards need a caveat. No TAG population figures for modern sets were collected for this batch, so the vintage comparison above cannot be repeated for them. On PSA’s side, the Umbreon alt art page archived in June 2025 lists 17,185 PSA 10s among 23,709 numerically graded copies, about 72.5%. When PSA gives most copies of a card its top grade, a strong TAG 10 has plenty of room to land there, though no published data tests it.

The route changes the stakes more than the odds. Through a PSA crossover a miss costs the fee; through a crack-out a miss costs the TAG grade as well.

Prices: a TAG 10 Umbreon against PSA 10s

The Evolving Skies Umbreon VMAX alt art is the one card in our price research with a TAG 10 sale. Goldin’s lot said the slab’s 984 score put it “at the top of the TAG Leaderboard for this piece, sharing its lofty score with just one other example.” Prices are buyer totals with Goldin’s premium, listed as “Buyer’s Premium 22% ($19 min)”.

Holder and grade Goldin price Auction end
CGC 10 (Gem Mint label) $3,050 8/21/25
PSA Gem Mint 10 $5,491 4/26/26
TAG Gem Mint 10, score 984 $5,063 5/17/26
PSA Gem Mint 10 $4,697 5/24/26
PSA Mint 9 $2,257 6/28/26
PSA Gem Mint 10 $4,087 8/09/26
BGS Pristine 10 $3,660 8/09/26

The TAG 10 sold $428 below the April PSA 10 and $366 above the late-May PSA 10. On this card, in that window, the market priced a top-scoring TAG 10 inside the PSA 10 range and above the BGS Pristine 10 and CGC Gem Mint 10 sales. The TAG lot drew only seven bids, so treat it as one data point. The CGC slab here is a current-scale Gem Mint 10; CGC’s 2023 change means that “Cards previously graded Gem Mint 9.5 are exactly equivalent to Gem Mint 10 under the updated grading scale”, so older CGC 9.5 labels belong in the same row. For CGC’s top grades on the same question, see CGC Gem Mint 10 to PSA 10.

What the numbers say about the cost

A card that sells for around $5,063 is above the $5,000 cap of PSA’s Super Express tier, so on PSA’s list read October 23, 2026 it would go in Premier, at $599.00 for values up to $10,000. That fee is larger than the $428 gap to the best PSA 10 sale in the table, and the other spring PSA 10 sold for less than the TAG slab. On this card, the published fee alone outweighs the price spread we found.

The downside of a crack-out is sharper still. If PSA graded the raw card a 9, the June 2026 PSA 9 sale of $2,257 sits $2,806 below the TAG 10’s price, before the fee. That is our arithmetic on single sales, not a forecast, but it shows why the route matters more than the label for a TAG 10.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does TAG offer a crossover to PSA?

No. TAG’s help center rules out a crossover service and says TAG will not open slabs from other graders. Any move from a TAG slab to PSA has to go through PSA, or through cracking the card out and submitting it raw.

Does PSA accept TAG slabs for crossover?

PSA does not say. Its crossover page talks about cards graded by other companies without naming any, so ask PSA whether it will review a TAG case before you ship one.

Is a TAG 10 the same as a PSA 10?

Not by definition. TAG’s Gem Mint 10 is a score band from 950 to 989 and its Pristine 10 runs from 990 to 1000, with Pristine centering of 51/49 on the front. PSA’s 10 allows about 55/45, and TAG does not publish centering limits for its Gem Mint 10.

What are the odds a TAG 10 grades PSA 10?

No company publishes them. Our estimate, in words: a TAG Pristine 10 is a strong candidate, a Gem Mint 10 scoring in the high 900s is a good one, and a 10 near the 950 floor is the least certain.

Do TAG 10s sell for less than PSA 10s?

For the Umbreon VMAX alt art from Evolving Skies, the gap was small: a TAG 10 scored 984 sold for $5,063 at Goldin in May 2026, between PSA 10 sales of $5,491 in April and $4,697 later in May.

What if I crack a TAG 10 and PSA gives it a 9?

The card stays a PSA 9; a raw submission has no minimum-grade safety net. On the Umbreon, a PSA 9 sold for $2,257 in June 2026, against $5,063 for the TAG 10.
