What the Reholder service is for
Reholdering is intended for PSA-certified cards that need a replacement case. Common reasons include heavy scratching, cloudiness, chipped corners, or cracks that reduce protection or presentation. The card should remain sealed in its PSA holder when submitted.
Removing it yourself turns the card into a raw submission and prevents PSA from examining the original seal and damage. Reholdering differs from a formal grade review. A collector requesting reholdering wants a sound case, while a collector requesting review wants PSA to reconsider whether the card deserves a higher grade.
When the grade may be reconsidered
Minor surface wear on the plastic usually presents less grading risk than damage extending toward the card. A light scratch affects the holder's appearance; a deep fracture may expose the card to pressure, moisture, or movement.

If the card appears unchanged and the holder is authentic and secure, the existing grade can generally carry into the replacement holder.
If damage or tampering creates doubt, PSA may decline a routine reholder or handle the card differently under its current procedures. This matters most with high-value Pokémon cards, where one grade point can change the market price substantially. How to decide whether to submit
Start by separating cosmetic holder damage from possible card damage. Reholdering makes sense when the slab is unattractive or compromised but the card still appears stable and unchanged.
Before shipping: If a crack is actively pressing on the card, additional shipping could worsen the damage. Preserve clear photographs and contact PSA for current instructions before sending a slab that no longer protects its contents.
