Ascended Heroes Pokemon Card Prices: Where the Set’s Value Is Concentrated

Ascended Heroes is the Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution special set, and its value lives in Pikachu ex and Mega Gengar ex. Those two Special Illustration Rares trade around $800–$1,137 ungraded, far above the rest of the set. The set released January 30, 2026 as the first 2026 special set. It is headlined by Mega Dragonite ex and 13 Mega Evolution ex cards, according to The Pokemon Company via Insider Gaming in its Ascended Heroes release report.

Which two cards hold the top value?

Pikachu ex Special Illustration Rare 276/217 and Mega Gengar ex SIR 284/217 concentrate the set's value. They traded around $800–$1,137 ungraded in 2026, with PSA 10 copies near $3,299, according to Essential Japan, TheGamer and Wargamer reporting in their August 2026 Ascended Heroes value ranking. Mega Gengar ex SIR was the first Ascended Heroes card past $1,000.

CBR listed it at $1,106 market, narrowly rivaling Pikachu ex for the top chase. That pairing matters for buyers. Almost every other single costs a fraction of either card. Chasing the set means chasing those two SIRs.

Where does the next price tier sit?

Mega Dragonite ex SIR 290/217 and the Double Dreamers Mega Attack Rare form a second cluster. Collectiblez and Spun-Athlon place that group near $235–$570, trailing only Gengar and Pikachu. Gold cards add another high tier.

Mega Charizard Y ex Mega Hyper Rare gold is the set's most expensive gold at about $600–$651 early, ahead of gold Mega Dragonite ex near $202–$288, according to TheGamer in its early Ascended Heroes chase-card prices. The pattern is narrow. Two SIRs lead, Charizard gold and Dragonite-linked ultras follow, then prices fall fast. Lower ultras and illustration rares do not carry the same weight.

How much does the full set cost?

The full 295-card set was valued near $4,182–$5,316. KantoPost and CBR price tracking counts 19–22 cards over $50 in that total. Collectr and Wargamer math puts a master set near $10,000.

The gap reflects premiums, condition, grading, and hard-to-hit SIRs. For most collectors, that makes pack-chasing expensive. Singles look costly, but a sealed chase for two top SIRs costs more.

Should you buy singles now or wait?

Prices are volatile and falling. PokeInsider market analysis found Gengar and Pikachu slid to about $856–$900 by September 2026, with reprints expected into 2027, in its September 2026 Pokemon TCG market split.

Buyers chasing singles face steep early premiums. Waiting for reprints risks lower prices but missing mint early pulls, according to the TCGTalk Singapore collectors guide.

  • Need Pikachu or Gengar for a binder now: budget for the top tier and prioritize centered, clean copies.
  • Want gold Charizard Y or Dragonite SIR: track sold listings, not asking prices.
  • Building a master set: price the 19–22 cards over $50 first, then decide.
  • Can wait into 2027: delay nonessential pickups until reprint supply lands.
