Logan Paul explains why Charizard survives hype cycles

Logan Paul has long been a big name in the Pokemon card world, and he recently broke down why the iconic Charizard card keeps its value even when the overall market cools off. In a video chat about investing trends heading into 2026, he pointed out that while many new cards see wild price jumps followed by drops, Charizard holds steady because it is the ultimate blue-chip card in the hobby.

Paul explained that hype cycles hit modern sets hard. Take recent Scarlet and Violet cards, for example. Some started at $1,600 raw but have fallen to around $300 or less as supply floods in and excitement fades.[1][3] Other hot pulls like those from Temporal Forces are down too, with top illustration rares now sitting at $20 to $60 after peaking higher.[5] He compared this to cards from Sword and Shield or Evolving Skies, where prices popped to $600 or $250 before sliding back to $150-$350 ranges.[1][3]

But Charizard? Paul says it is different. Its price charts show support levels that barely budge. One Base Set Charizard hovered around $800 before stabilizing near $1,000, way above past lows.[1] Even in down markets, it finds buyers at $7,000+ for sealed booster boxes from older eras like Sun and Moon, thanks to low supply.[4] Paul stresses that Charizard survives because collectors see it as timeless. Nostalgia from kids who grew up with the original 1999 set keeps demand rock solid, no matter if newer sets tank.[2]

He noted the market flipped this year. Early 2025 saw 20% jumps in some areas, but by fall, most singles softened while vintage staples like Charizard stayed firm.[4] Paul advised collectors to watch for these patterns in 2026. New sets might dip after launch hype, but icons with history and scarcity bounce back faster. For instance, Pokemon Center exclusives could climb due to rarity, much like Charizard has for decades.[6]

Paul wrapped his take by saying patience pays with Charizard. While trendy cards chase quick flips and crash, this fire-breathing dragon has proven it can weather any storm in the Pokemon TCG world.
