Pokémon Legends Z-A has officially launched and the developers have already begun laying out their plans for the game’s future through downloadable content. The Pokémon Company and Game Freak have confirmed that players can expect substantial post-launch support, with the first major DLC expansion already announced and scheduled for release.
The first DLC expansion for Pokémon Legends Z-A is called Mega Dimension, and it represents a significant addition to the game’s content. This expansion is priced at 24.99 pounds and will be released in two separate segments. The first part consists of cosmetic items and apparel that players can use throughout the main game, while the second part focuses on additional narrative content that extends the story beyond the main campaign. Players who pre-order the Mega Dimension DLC on the Nintendo eShop receive Holo-X and Holo-Y Apparel Items immediately, giving them a taste of what’s to come.
The Mega Dimension DLC is scheduled to release on December 10th, 2025. However, the narrative content portion of the DLC does not yet have a confirmed release date. Based on the DLC schedules from previous Pokémon generations, industry observers predict that the story content could arrive in Spring 2026, though this remains speculation until The Pokémon Company makes an official announcement.
The focus of the Mega Dimension DLC centers entirely on Mega Evolution, the powerful transformation mechanic that allows certain Pokémon to temporarily evolve into stronger forms during battle. The expansion will introduce players to Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y, two newly discovered Mega-Evolved forms of Raichu that each utilize different Mega Stones to achieve their transformations. These new Mega Evolutions represent the first time players will encounter Raichu in these forms.
The narrative content of the DLC takes place after players complete the main story of Pokémon Legends Z-A. The story involves investigating strange spatial distortions that have suddenly appeared throughout Lumiose City, the game’s main setting. These distortions appear to connect to a mysterious space, and the true nature of this phenomenon remains unknown at the start of the DLC adventure. Players will work alongside their friends in Team MZ to uncover the secrets behind these strange occurrences and explore what lies beyond the spatial rifts.
The developers have emphasized that the DLC will include additional post-game story content comparable in scale to previous DLC chapters from earlier Pokémon titles. This suggests that players can expect a substantial narrative experience rather than just a brief side mission or minor addition to the game.
Beyond the Mega Dimension DLC, the leaked development roadmap from The Pokémon Company reveals an extensive schedule of future projects extending through 2030. While these leaks came from a security breach and should be treated with some caution, they provide insight into the company’s long-term vision for the franchise.
Generation 10 of the main Pokémon series is scheduled for 2026 and will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. These games, reportedly codenamed Gaia and now known as Pokémon Wind and Pokémon Wave, will feature MMO capabilities and procedurally generated islands to explore. The setting will be based on Southeast Asia, and the games will feature a brand-new graphics engine. The gameplay structure will include both traditional gym battles and challenges based on the eighteen Pokémon types.
Following Generation 10, the developers are planning another entry in the Pokémon Legends series for 2027. This game, tentatively called Pokémon Legends Galar, will be set one thousand years in the past within the Galar region, which players previously explored in Pokémon Sword and Shield. The main objective of this game involves creating the very first Gigamax Poké Ball, and the game is reportedly inspired by Xenoblade Chronicles X in terms of its design and gameplay structure.
Looking further ahead, 2029 will see the release of Project Seed, an ambitious new type of Pokémon game that will be the first multi-region title in the series. This game will allow players to travel across multiple regions from the first four generations of Pokémon games, connecting areas like Sinnoh and Hoenn in a way that previous games have not attempted. Project Seed is described as a prototyping project for a next-generation online game that will be playable by multiple people simultaneously, suggesting it will have multiplayer components.
The leaked roadmap also indicates that Generation 11 is planned for 2030, though specific details about these games have not yet been revealed. Additionally, the life sim game Pokopia, which was recently revealed to the public, is confirmed to receive DLC content in the future.
The current state of Pokémon Legends Z-A shows that the game launched successfully in October 2025 with a focus on Mega Evolution as a central mechanic. The game is set in Lumiose City, where an urban redevelopment plan is underway to shape the city into a place that belongs to both people and Pokémon. The developers have already begun rolling out post-launch content, including special events and rewards for players.
In early November 2025, The Pokémon Company released new content for the game, including the ability to obtain Baxcalibrite, the Mega Stone required to Mega Evolve Baxcalibur, through the Z-A Battle Club as a reward for getting promoted in online Ranked Battles. Players also gained access to the Mythical Pokémon Diancie and a Diancite Stone through the Mystery Gift feature, along with an extra side mission called “Shine Bright like a Gemstone.”
The developers have also introduced new features and mechanics to keep players engaged. The Z-A Royale allows players to battle powerful trainers, and new friends are continuously being added to help players throughout their adventure in Lumiose City.
The confirmation of the Mega Dimension DLC roadmap and the broader development schedule demonstrates that The Pokémon Company is committed to supporting Pokémon Legends Z-A with substantial content updates while simultaneously working on multiple future projects. The staggered release of DLC content, combined with the ambitious plans for future generations and spin-off titles, suggests that the Pokémon franchise will continue to evolve and expand in new directions over the coming years. Players can expect a steady stream of new content and experiences as the company executes its long-term vision for the series.
